With all the hustle and bustle of our modern world, and
increasing number of dedicated followers have incorporated
daily meditation practice into their lives as a means to
relax. But the benefits of meditation can extend far beyond
simple relaxation alone. This calming ritual can also lower
your blood pressure, help you to cope with anxiety and
alleviate depression. Simply stated, meditation creates
physical, mental, and emotional balance for those who
perform it regularly.

For some of us, the idea of meditation may conjure images
of a Buddhist priest sitting cross-legged on a mountain,
perhaps even chanting as he strives for enlightenment. But
in reality, there are several varieties of meditation that
can fit easily into our everyday lives. Meditation
techniques can generally be placed within one of two
categories, being concentrative meditation or mindfulness
meditation.

The first group includes yoga and other methodologies where
the person has to concentrate on a mantra, the process of
breathing or the thought of a specific representation or
sound. The answer for this method resides in letting your
intellect to concentrate on one constant item of
meditation. When the mind develops its consciousness of the
item, it will get calmer and will produce a feeling of
relaxation that will produce a profound and regular
breathing.

On the contrary, the other group of meditation implies a
momentary consciousness of the world around you, comprising
smells, sounds, emotions and thoughts. In this way the mind
is not set on any particular item. This method helps to
quiet your mind, encouraging approval of our surroundings
and at the same time allows yourself to get relax and less
impulsive to the environment.

The meditation practices may vary, but the benefits will be
almost the same. Neurologists believe that meditation
lowers not only the stress in the mind but also the tension
in the body through the shift of brain waves to several
zones of the cortex. Also, heart specialists have
discovered that these practices raise their patients'
exercise tolerance and normalize the blood pressure of
those that have it high. Many researches have demonstrated
that meditation reduces oxygen consumption and respiratory
action, thus rising blood flow while slowing the heart rate.

The process of meditating also brings advantages to people
who suffer from mental problems since it decreases the
episodes of anxiety and depression by reducing the
concentration of blood lactate and raising the levels of
serotonin. Meditation is also thought to enlarge self-
esteem and self-justification when practiced repeatedly.
And the methods employed help to reduce viral activity,
emotional grief and persistent health ailments like
allergies and arthritis.

Multiplying the number of followers around the world, the
practice of meditation has been adopted as a means to
achieve mental and physical welfare. Generally, it is
related to better creativeness, superior brain wave
consistency and a superior intelligent quotient. To include
meditation in your way of life represent giving up time,
but the benefits it brings are far more rewarding. This
practice helps people to find the time to be with
themselves, creating a world of calmness and forgetting
about the turmoil of the world around.
